A clipping path draws a hard vector outline. That works for products with clean edges — bottles, shoes, electronics. But hair has hundreds of individual strands. Fur blends into the background pixel by pixel. Glass is semi-transparent. A hard path around any of these creates a plastic-looking cutout that immediately signals cheap post-production.

Image masking uses luminance data instead of vector geometry — it reads the actual pixel values at the edge to extract the subject without destroying what makes it look real.
